Jerry Swartz, President
| My name is Jerry Swartz. I am the LSEA President and have been since
August of 2002. I had the pleasure to serve as LSEA Vice-President under
the Presidency of Betty Brown. I served as the Contract Maintenance Department
Chairman under the leadership of LSEA President Harry Moore. Additionally,
I served as a building representative for the Alternative Education programs
when they were at Holmes Street School and I served as a building representative
at Eastern HS for 9 years.
I am a special education teacher by training and have served in three states over the course of my career. From 1983-1986 I taught in a severely EI classroom in a middle school in Hutchinson KS that served two middle schools for that community. I moved to Boston MA in 1986 and taught only 1 year in Boston, also in a self-contained EI middle school classroom. Both of these experiences still bring me warm thoughts and memories as I ponder the impact that I made and that was made upon me in those early years of my career. My formal education was a MA at Michigan State University in the area of Adult and Continuing Education. I received my undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan in the area of Elementary education and Special Education EI K-12. I enjoyed both of these educational experiences but knew that both were mere preparations for the real education which is in the field. The years spent in the classroom and working with adults are truly the finest education one could ask for. I grew up in Greenville MI (it is questionable to those who best know me if I have really grown up :-)). I went to public schools K-12 and experienced some of my best memories while in those educational years. I suspect that is partly why I pursued a profession in education. I must admit that not all of my teachers/mentors would appreciate my participation in the career of their choice but none the less they were my educators and mentors. Jerry Swartz |
